Moving Stories is our flagship education project, generously funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. Since 2022, we have been working with primary schools in London to explore the possibilities of what new teaching methodologies can emerge when teachers collaborate with AKC artists. Drawing on the AKC approach to dance-making and storytelling, teachers on the Moving Stories project access ongoing professional development, performances, and create meaningful partnerships with our artists.
Together with our school partners, we have developed approaches that connect dance to different subjects in purposeful and impactful ways. We have seen how dance can deepen understanding across a wide range of subjects, offering a different way to excite, challenge and connect children to their learning in creative and inclusive ways.
It has been a privilege for us to witness dance becoming embedded within each school, evolving into a natural and valued part of the school day as teachers grow in confidence, becoming advocates for dance in their own schools.
In 2026–27, we are delighted to expand the Moving Stories methodology to new schools in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Redbridge, and Bradford. Over the next 15 months, we will work with 16 teachers to embed dance within the curriculum, reaching more than 1000 children.
