Professional development

We established AKX in 2014 with the desire to share Akram Khan’s legacy with the next generation of talented dance performers and makers in order that the boundaries of dance can continue to be pushed.

"I learnt that there are no limits if you have no fear"

Daisy West, dance student

AKX, in which X stands for “experiment”, is a short course that aims to bridge vocational training and professional performance in contemporary dance. Encapsulating the collaborative practice of Khan, it is designed to equip young dancers fresh out of vocational training with professional tools that enable them to meet the demands of modern choreographers as well as to develop their own artistic voice. We work with England’s vocational dance training institutions in selecting the participants.
